The Transcendental Argument

One potent argument against materialism I’m going to develop on my blog looks as follows:

    1) according to materialism, everything which is exist is ultimately reducible to particles and energy
    2) therefore the truth of materialism should be reducible to a well-defined bunch of interacting particles
    3) it is utterly absurd to look after such a bunch
    4) therefore materialism is absurd

I’d be glad to learn what you think on my logic.

    Lovely greetings from Europe.

    • Hi Lotharson,

Yea, it isn’t a new argument, as ultimately it would simply reduce down to brain states. This has been refuted for a while…

However, I think your ability to make that argument, based on some of the views that I have seen held to by you on your blog – assuming I am understanding you correctly in your denial of scriptural inerrancy amongst other things – would make your worldview just as impossible to hold to as materialistic atheism. Presuppositional apologetics can only work from a consistent reformed theology as its basis.

        Hello, thanks for your answer!

I believe that many worldviews are coherent. Materialism is not one of them and the argument I’ve mentioned should suffice to show its utter absurdity.

Your claim that Reformed Theology is the only consistent worldview is truly an extraordinary claim.
Actually, given the definitions of words, I believe it even contains a logical contradiction.

For saying that God is love AND that God predetermined the largest part of mankind to end up in hell is just completely absurd.

        Lovely greetings from Europe.
