Why “pure antithesis” ?

Greg Bahnsen, a student of Cornelius Van Til stated in his book,  “Always Ready”:

“It should come as no surprise that, in a world where all things have been created by Christ (Col 1:16) and are carried along by the word of His power (Heb. 1:3) and where all knowledge is therefore deposited in Him who is The Truth (Col. 2:3; John 14:6) and who must be Lord over all thinking (2 Cor. 10:5), neutrality is nothing short of immorality. ”

God’s Word is the pure and absolute standard to which all other things are to be judged – a Christian must retain this idea and resist the temptation to abandon his Christian presuppositions in the expected hope to find some ‘ neutral common ground’ with the unbeliever in order to try to engage him. By doing so they are rejecting Christ’s authority in favour of their own autonomy in order to appeal to supposed ‘brute facts’ as if there is something more certain than God’s Word and essentially make themselves no better than the unbeliever that they are engaging with. We are contending for a certain God, not a probable God.

All reality is either as God says it is, or it is not – facts are either what they are as interpreted by the non-christians presuppositions, or the Christian’s presuppositions. It is one, or the other – this is the antithesis.

There is no neutrality – there is antithesis.
There is no autonomy – there is revelation.

Therefore Your servant loves it.

because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,

1 Corinthians 2:14
But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

Colossians 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.
